Donald Edgar Gibney

Donald Edgar Gibney age 89, passed away at his home in Bonanza, Oregon on Monday August 23, 2021. He was born on October 20, 1931 in Grant, Nebraska to Clarence and Bertha Marie Gibney. He was the oldest of six children.

After attending high school, he joined the Army, serving four years and ending when deployed to Korea and Guam. After returning home, he married Patricia Mae Tyree on January 8, 1953 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. A shortr time later, they returned to the Klamath basin and purchased a home in Bonanza. With the help of their good friends, Mildred and Howard Kellison, Don was hired at the Klamath County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. One of his favorite jobs was operating a snow plow through the county's long winters. He continued working for the county for 41 years until his retirement.

After retiring, he and Patrcia went for many vacations, traveling in their motorhome throughout the northwest. Many of these trips included Patricia's brother Tim and his wife Helen. They would stop at antique stores along their route looking for treasures.

After his wife's death in 2005, Don kept busy volunteering for the city of Bonanza and helping out with his family. He also followed the Bonanza girls volleyball and basketball programs for many years attending every home game. He loved riding motorcycles and tinkering around in his garage. Only rarely would you ever find him inside. One of his proudest achievements was being named volunteer of the year in 2018 for his work helping the town of Bonanza.

Don was extremely fortunate to maintain excellent health up to the day of his death.

Donald is survived by his daughter and son in law, Donna and Michael Romtvedt of Klamath Falls, two granchildren, Sara (Chris) Kirby of Salmon, Idaho, Kevin (Rosanna) Romtvedt of Klamath falls, Oregon, eleven great grandchildren, Colton, Patricia, Wyatt, Elliot, Titus, Grant, Hester and Jethro Kirby and Jenna, Audrey and Theodore Romtvedt. He is also survived by four of his siblings, Vernon (Ethel) Gibney, Linda Logan, Jane (Jim) McNish and Verla Daly. He was preceeded in death by his wife Patricia, a sister, Leola Landsford and brother in law, Roy Landsford.

Don will be greatly missed by many, including his sister in law, Betty Tyree and his entire extended family. Don was laid to rest on Monday September 6, 2021 in Bonanza Memorial Park Cemetery, Bonanza, Oregon.
