Edward Rush Obituary

Edward Albie Rush, 83 of Klamath Falls OR. Died January 6th 2020 at Sky Lakes Medical Center from Lung Cancer, with his children by his side.

Born in Washington, PA on August 30th 1936 to Randolph J Rush Sr. and Edra A Welsh-Rush. He was the youngest of 6 siblings. Ed joined the Air Force at just 17 and honorably served for 4 years. His path led to a career in Civil Service, working at George Air Force Base, Edwards Air Force Base, Kingsley Field Air Force Base, Fairchild Air Force Base, and then back To Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base where he retired in 1996. His duties included Mechanic, Commissary & Supply, Road and Ground Maintenance at Keno Air Force Station atop of Hamaker Mountain, Supply and Transport for the 173 Fighter Wing, of which he talked about the most. He truly loved his work and the friends he made there. Earning the nickname as “Fast Eddie”.

He married Margaret J. Wright in July of 1957 in Kingston MO, and Fathered 3 Children. Eddie, Sherry, and Robbie.  The “Rush” house was the hang-out for many neighborhood children who enjoyed having Ed & Margie [the biggest of the kids] take part in playing baseball, kickball, dodge-ball, and hide n seek.  Everyone enjoyed Ed’s good humor, and prankster spirit. He instigated many neighborhood water fights, bicycle demolition derbies, and took many on adventurous joy rides.  Ed enjoyed Dancing, Pool, Darts, Cards, Dice, Slots, Metal Detecting, Hunting, Fishing, Motorcycling, his Model A Creamery Truck, and surprised everyone with his Roller-Skating abilities. A great provider, protector, and rescuer, one time spending 3 hours on Doak Mnt. helping multiple people stuck in a snow storm.

After losing his wife in a tragic accident in 1996, he never remarried, and then suffered the loss of his oldest son in 2008. He is survived by Sherry Gunter [daughter], Robbie Rush [son], and Grandchildren- Brandon Rush, Danielle & Nikota Gatewood, Brandy Nightingale, and Geena Martin.  Also his good friend Shelly Cobb.

He was as tough as they come, and no illness or injury kept him from his work.  He hid his symptoms and refused care until the critical end, without complaint, and with a tremendous display of grace to all who were caring for him. O’Hair Funeral Chapel handled his cremation, and a private celebration of life will take place this spring.

Edward was inurned in Section 38, Site 176, at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, Oregon.
