Edward Anthony “Buzz” Smith, 82, passed away at home on May 17, 2021. He was born on December 14, 1938 in Gardner, Colorado to Ted and Pauline (Belloni) Smith. After living and going to school in Grass Valley, Portland, and Chiloquin, he graduated from Bly High School in 1957. His first jobs were at the ZX Ranch in Paisley and the Forest Service in Bly. Buzz married Kathy Melsness in Bly on August 27, 1960 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. Later, when Weyerhauser operations ceased in Bly, he worked for other local logging and road construction businesses operating heavy equipment. In his retirement, he was in constant motion doing chores on the ranch, hunting, tending to his large garden, and fishing. His pride was in his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed having them at the ranch as often as possible. Buzz was preceded in death by his father Ted, mother Pauline, step-father Everett Bell. He is survived by wife Kathy, daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Carl Gurske, son Michael Smith, daughter and son-in-law Paula and Brian Shults, granddaughter Adrienne Gurske, granddaughter Megan Shults and her fiancé Court Carver, and grandson Steven Shults.
