In the early morning hours of April 29, 2023, Elton went home to be with his maker. Elton was born January 27, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, to Elton Colwell Taft and Loretta Agnes Dakin. He served in the United States Navy and fought in the Pacific Ocean Theater of battle. Elton then returned to Los Angeles where he earned an Associate degree. He worked various jobs, including sales at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Western Harness Racetracks and the Los Angeles Rams.
Elton and Caroline moved to Dorris, California, where he was active in the Dorris Lions Club. There, Elton went door-to-door asking for donations for the "Tallest Flagpole in the World." He worked on that project until the pole was erected in Dorris. Elton was also involved with the Butte Valley Chamber of Commerce, Butte Valley Museum, and the Siskiyou County Grand Jury.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents and three children. He is survived by his wife of 44 tears, Caroline, and three children. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Per Elton's request, no formal service will be held.
