Gene Overen Obituary

Gene Ronald Overen passed away on July 4, 2020 in his home at Chrystal Terrace, Klamath Falls, OR. He was born in Whittenberg, WI on May 5, 1934, to Gabriel and Olga Overen, one of seven children. He and Jeanie Dunlavy were married in 1952 and their daughter, Catherine Louise, was born in 1953. The Overen family moved to Oregon in 1945 where Gene graduated from KU in 1951 and OTI (as it was known at the time) in 1962, with honors in Electrical Engineering. He was recruited by IBM and moved to California. He retired from IBM after twenty-five years. He then bought a business in Lake Havasu City, AZ., called "Coffee Time". Gene sold that business in 1993 in order to travel the United States in RV’s for nearly twelve years with wife Jeanie and Rhodesian Ridgeback Rosie. In 2005 the family discontinued traveling and settled in Casa Grande, AZ. Gene and Jeanie relocated to Klamath Falls in 2017 after being away for fifty-five years. Gene is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Jeanie of Klamath Falls, OR.; daughter Catherine Schock of Deer Park, WA.; sister Barbara Smith of Redmond, OR; sisters-in-law Barbara Massey of Klamath Falls; Jo Ann Overen of Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews. Gene loved riding motorcycles (competing in Enduro races), golfing, Lure Coursing with his Ridgeback Rosie, expertly fixing anything around the house. He was very daring, took flying lessons and celebrated his 70th birthday with a skydiving adventure! He was a most wonderful husband and father and will be terribly missed by his family and friends. Gene will be laid to rest at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of sending flowers, a donation can be made to High Desert Hospice located at 2210 Shallock Avenue, Klamath Falls, Oregon 97601, in Genes name.
