George LeRoy Arnold, 83, passed away June 25, 2021, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
Mr. Arnold was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Glen and Helen “Louise” Arnold. His family moved to Hood River, Oregon, when he was a boy and lived there a short while before moving to Merrill/the Klamath Basin, where he lived most of his life.
Mr. Arnold graduated from Merrill High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Darleen D. Frisvold on June 29, 1957, in the Merrill Presbyterian Church.
They made a home in Merrill, Oregon, where Mr. Arnold worked in agriculture and ranching before taking a position with Dorris Lumber & Moulding Company in Dorris, California, where he worked for 43 years before retiring in 2000
Mr. Arnold enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and driving cross-country with his wife and children to visit aunts, uncles and other extended family in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Louisiana. Among his favorite things to do was going to Reno with his wife, and, later, his adult children, to play the slots.
Survivors include his son Dan Arnold of Wendell, Idaho; daughter and son-in-law Tammy Hargens-Bradley and Todd Bradley of Portland; daughter Katie Arnold of Portland; grandchildren Hannah Hargens, McKenzie Hargens and Rowen Arnold of Portland, Mike Arnold of Klamath Falls, and Brianne (Arnold) Jacobs of Long Beach, Mississippi; great-granddaughter Breanna Freeman of Bend; niece Christina (Frisvold) Starns of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and nephew Miles Frisvold of Platka, Florida; sister-in-law Cholaine (Frisvold) Lawrence of Ocala, Florida; and dear friend and neighbor Diane Meyer of Merrill
Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife Darleen; son Norman; beloved in-laws Martha and Norman Frisvold; grandparents George and Nellie Arnold; parents Glen Arnold and Helen “Louise” Benefield; step-parents Ida Arnold and Thurman Benefield; brother-in-law David Frisvold; and sister-in-law Sandra Frisvold.
Friends and family can pay their respects at O'Hair-Ward' Funeral Chapel Thursday, July 1, from noon to 2 p.m.
Mr. Arnold will be laid to rest at Merrill I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
