Following Joyce’s graduation from Lakeview High School, Lakeview, Oregon Class of 1956. Joyce moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the F.B.I. filing fingerprints. Joyce met her husband, LeRoy “Roy” A. Jacobus Jr., of 48 years at a U.S.O. dance in Washington D.C. They were married on August 17, 1958. In 1994, after her husband LeRoy “Roy” retired from the United States Air Force, Joyce and Roy completed their forever home in Chiloquin, Oregon on the property which has been in the family for approximately 50 years.

She was best known for her kind and gentle love of her family and friends. She was a friend to all and an enemy of none, a good neighbor who was kind to strangers. She was active in the community (ie P.T.A., Water Board Member, Garden Club Member, and Girl Scouting) and was a reliable hard-working, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed country music, was an avid horseback rider and Round-up Princess of Lake County in 1956. She was an avid Square Dancer who enjoyed dancing at square dance conventions all over the nation. She was a great Seamstress and made many wedding dresses, square dance outfits, and quilts. She loved girl scouting and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She was an avid hiker and hiked almost all of the Pacific Crest Trail while improving the trails as she hiked.
