A Man of faith, respected and adored by many, Dr. Mark (Sonny) Kochevar died on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the age of 94. Mark was born November 13, 1928, in Pueblo, Colorado, and attended Central High School. After graduation, he entered the Navy and served in Panama. Once discharged, he entered Colorado College, graduating in three years. Mark was accepted into the University of Colorado Denver Medical School. In college he met his loving wife, Lorraine. In their 71+ years of marriage, they raised six girls. After his residency program, he accepted a General Practitioner position in Klamath Falls, Oregon, which he called home for the rest of his life.
Mark practiced medicine for over 60 years, and delivered more than 2500 babies. He was a runner-up for doctor-of-the-year for Good Housekeeping Magazine; was a president of Flying Physicians, and helped monitor the residents at Cascades East Residency Program.
Dr. Kochevar was a devout Catholic and a devoted family man. He was generous, loyal, humble, and had an engaging personality with a dry sense of humor. Mark had an array of hobbies and interests, and was a life-long learner who had a passion for mentoring others in a variety of fields.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents: Mark and Grace Kochevar; his stepmother Marge Kochevar; his sisters and brothers-in-law Winifred Bigelow (Duane), Janice Sneeringer (John), Catherine Robeda (Frank), and Jerry Campbell.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife Lorraine Kochevar; his sisters Barbara Campbell and Patricia Weller (Dick); his six favorite daughters and their spouses, Joan Fenwick, Barbara Kochevar, Kathy Kelley (Ken), Susy Bell, Irene Gilleland (Tom), and Mary Hughes (John); his eight grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Tommy, Ryan, Kyle, Brittany, Jason, and Kristopher, and his six great- grandchildren; Ezra, Chloe, Colton, Logan, Monroe, and Rooney.
A Mass for the Celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
