Exuding God’s mercy and grace and displaying Jesus in her compassionate actions throughout her life, Sarah joined her loving savior on March 17, 2020, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was born in Portland, Oregon on January 12, 1971, and grew up in Gresham, Oregon. Sarah graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1989, then attended Mt. Hood Community College, getting an associate degree in cosmetology in 1991. Throughout her school years Sarah’s athletic talent was demonstrated in several team sports, but softball was her favorite. Between Little League, summer ball and high school, she played 14 seasons in ten years, and also played basketball in middle school. She participated in a myriad of other activities throughout her life, such as bicycling, bowling, walking, hiking, gardening, painting and drawing, sewing and leather work. She loved animals of all kinds, especially horses and dogs, and had many pets throughout the years. In February 1997, Sarah and George Marek were married and moved to Klamath Falls, OR to begin their married life on the family farm that had belonged to George’s maternal great-grandparents in the early 1900s. They later returned to Portland for employment reasons, with the hope that the move would be temporary, and that they would sometime return to the farm. In November, 2002, they opened Wildroot Hair Salon in north Portland, and she operated it until 2017, building lasting friendships with many of her clients. Sarah and George were able to realize their long-time dream of returning to the Klamath Falls farm in 2018. Sarah’s spirit of generosity, giving and helping was evident throughout her life, including participating in mission trips to Senegal, Africa and Haiti. Her artistic talent, kindness, intelligence and knowledge, as well as her infectious laugh, beautiful smile, and dimples, will be greatly missed. Sarah is survived by her loving husband George, parents Kathleen and Scott Duncan, sister Colleen Duncan, niece Bette Holmes, nephew Jonathon Holmes, an aunt, uncle and cousins, George’s mother Sandra Marek, sisters Genita Limke, Genell Lilje, Geanna Revell and nieces Megan and Anna Limke. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
